For fun: turn back, o man concert
Tonight after I got off from azcentral, we went to see a great show at the Trunk Space downtown.
In honor of election day…
These photos are not new. I took them about a year ago, when Obama came to speak at ASU on Oct. 19, 2007. They are the property of The East Valley Tribune… so if you’re new here it means don’t take them.
There are so many emotions involved in this election. I let myself get so worked up that I literally cried while listening to This American Life‘s story about Obama supporters confronting racism. It breaks my heart to see people on CNN scream xenophobic chants about his name, and call him a Muslim. Not because there is anything wrong with Islam, but that people would hold that against him in such a vicious way. I guess I side with Colin Powell on this one. He put it the best so I won’t bother repeating it.
In a week it will all be over, but until then, I will have trouble sleeping.
Off to fill out my mail in ballot…
Arcadia Bluegrass Jam
I miss daily assignments more than anything. I picked journalism because I thrive on deadline and all I have been lately is chained to my computer. So here are some shots I took today because I could.
Every Sunday, the coffeehouse closest to my home, Mama Java’s, hosts the Arcadia Bluegrass Jam. It’s been going on for as long as I can remember living here and I try to catch it as often as I can. Living in the Arcadia neighborhood has its ups and downs; at times, it seems like the place is filled with phonies (as Holden Caulfield would say) but for the most part people are really genuine and the local joints are amazing. I am so happy to have landed here four years ago.
Sunday morning
Productivity day of newspapers, orange juice and oatmeal.
I took this while driving home the other day, and while it is a totally non-spectacular cheap sunset/silhouette shot, it reminded me of how much I love this city, especially this time of year.
Saturday morning
Saturday is the day after Friday which means I sleep in late and think about how I should have shot high school football differently the night before. I am just a bundle of nerves today thinking about the past, present and future so I think I will roast some red potatoes before I go in to work at azcentral tonight. Argh.
Grumpy neighbor
Lupe never has anything upbeat to say and leaves funny notes like this to people I never see.
Agua Prieta walking tour
I am making it through a huge folder of photos to edit. Trying to post some that go together as I go along.
This is my attempt at shooting from the hip while walking through the city.
Cutest kid ever
Hillary car
This is for Amelia.
Let’s move to Bisbee and make cars celebrating female Democratic political candidates. Someday.
