Times Square, Bryant Park Day 1

It was so freaking crowded that I didn’t take many pictures. Half because it was crowded and half because the japanese tourists were intimidating me with their Mark III’s and L lenses.

All in all, the trip is going well. We had the most delicious Belgian Waffle with Nutella and Apple Cider. Amber is doing a great job navigating us around the subway system. Tomorrow we go to Brooklyn to explore and our New Year’s plans are still up in the air. Bed time, good night.

We have been sleeping since 9 am NY time, and it’s now almost 4:30, so we are quite hungry and trying to decide where to go for dinner.

Vacation Time

leave a comment »

I am flying out to New York tonight to take my first vacation in what seems like a decade. I will try to post while I am there, but will be more focused on the vacationing than the updating.

Today also ends my official run at the Tribune. I thank them profusely for paying me well, treating me well, and giving me lots of assignments. I felt like a part of the staff there, and it really motivated me to work harder. To Brad, Darryl, and Jen, thanks for giving me the help I needed when I asked, and to Tom and Ralph, whose work inspired me to try my best. I will never forget my first… real internship.

Next semester, it’s The State Press with Deanna and the City of Mesa video internship. After graduation, it’s looking like it will be The Republic. I was really hoping to get a Poynter Fellowship for the beginning of summer, but haven’t heard back from them yet. Cross your fingers that they are just slow in processing.

All in all, 2007 has been an amazing year. It wouldn’t have been so amazing if 2006 wasn’t so difficult, so at least something good came out of that disaster of a year. If I can top the astronomical amount of personal growth I have achieved this year, I will be a wise old woman by the next. Cheers to 2007, and happy new year.

Hiking

Scottsdale residents have another reason (besides being filthy rich) to smile. The city of Scottsdale sponsors these free guided hikes through preserve lands, like this one at Brown’s Ranch, up by Troon North. It was fun, I learned a lot, and these photos were used by two related photos, one of which ran A1 in the Scottsdale Tribune. Hikes offer a lot of good lighting, dramatic shadows, and scenic vistas.

I’m Back…

Christmas this year was great, and I thought I would share some of the joy in pictures.

My Mom playing with Natalie’s puppets.

Mariel reading Nat a Christmas Eve bedtime story.

Mariel excited over her new laptop; my mom put it in the trunk of my car for lack of a better way to hide it :)

Natalie in her new ladybug mask.

Nat with the bear and matching scarves the neighbor knitted for her.
