Portrait day: Singers

with 4 comments

The challenge: light 10 totally different people in different ways to make an appealing slideshow about this singing competition in Scottsdale. They all sing in the same area, so the goal was to really work every angle to change it up. The catch: take their 2-minute song window to do it in. This is most of them- tell me what you think.

Emcee, CC Jones

The competition is at The Estate House in Scottsdale, Tuesday nights starting mid-July. Come see the singers and have a martini with me!

  1. hey! i really like the 4th one down and all the ones with the piano, those ones were gorgeous. Other than that im not a pro, i liked the other ones, i thought you did a good job with changing the lighting on them but the piano and the 4th one were my favorites :) hoped that help!

  2. I really like all of them as a series. Each photo has a different feel to it, and the lighting in each is really nice. What did you do to light these?

  3. I lit each one with a strobe (and pocket wizard, thank god) and most of them are with umbrella, except the two rim light ones, and those are snooted. I tried as hard as I could to light each one independently… they would sing for a couple minutes, which was enough time for me to set up and get the shot. whew.

  4. I like it! Each photo has its own unique quality and I felt like you captured each singer’s own personal essence. For something that could have been quite boring I found to be very interesting!
