Hula-hooping class

with 4 comments

Today I shot pictures of a hula-hooping class. The more creative angles I tried didn’t work and it was further reminding that it would be nice to have a lens wider than a 35 on a non-full frame camera. But I liked this moment and squashed myself low enough on the floor as to not be seen in the mirror.

Ancient Mariners

with one comment

Today I went down to see what the little seaport town of Stonington was all about upon the recommendation of Michael McAndrews, a staff photographer at the Courant. As I was driving into town, I saw tons of people in funny costumes and decorated boats. Just so happened to be the annual ‘Blessing of the Fleet’ parade. I saw these guys in striped red shirts and couldn’t resist seeing what they were about. These are the Ancient Mariners of Connecticut; they were a rowdy bunch and a good time. More pictures with them soon.

I hung out with ballerinas all day Friday and it was a blast. Check the slideshow here for more.

Took my first trip to Boston on Saturday and it was a beautiful city that is going to warrant much more exploring.

Yesterday I was sent out to photograph an 83-year-old blind man whose house caught on fire after being struck by lightning. The alarm went off in his house and his seeing-eye dog, named Unique, led him to the front door. The editors decided it wasn’t a story worth running and canned it. He didn’t want his picture taken anyway. I thought the picture of the legs of the restoration guy sweeping was similar to the nudists.

In the nude

with one comment

This weekend I hung out with some nudists trying to set a world record for skinny-dipping. It was a beautiful day and I had a great time – don’t know if I’ll ever be brave enough to do it myself though. Luckily they let me shoot it with my clothes on.
